Protecting the environment is the responsibility of everyone in the community. We can do this by leading eco-friendly lifestyles,
and by taking ownership of our living environment. Our environment volunteers play a key role in our efforts to harness local
knowledge and co-create solutions, and in encouraging Singaporeans to keep our city clean and liveable.
You can make a difference by being an environment volunteer. NEA offers a variety of volunteer opportunities: participating in
events to promote environmental awareness and conservation, beautifying our community spaces, and garnering support for
ground-up environmental projects. No effort is ever too small.
The primary role of a Community Volunteer (CV) is to educate environmental offenders to stop the offending acts and
encourage greater ownership of the environment.
The CVs are empowered to request particulars of offenders who fail to heed their advice. The particulars are sent to the
National Environment Agency (NEA) for follow-up action. To tackle recalcitrant smokers on their premises, operators and
managers, or their nominated staff, could consider coming on board the Community Volunteer (CV) programme where
individuals are trained by NEA officers to educate offenders. If an offender does not heed the repeated advice of a CV, CVs are
empowered to take down the particulars of the offender. The particulars of the offender would then be submitted for NEA’s
consideration to follow through with the enforcement action.
If you believe in making a difference to the community and improving our environment, we welcome you to visit the NEA’s
website here.
