Electrical & Gas Services Worker Licences

What are the qualifications needed to apply for an electrical worker licence?
There are three classes of electrical worker licences, namely: Electrician Licence, Electrical Technician Licence and Electrical Engineer Licence.

Electrician Licence

Applicants of the electrician's licence must:

  • Hold a National Institute of Technical Education Certificate. Its course of study must be relevant to the electrical work which an electrician is authorised to perform or such other qualifications as may be acceptable to the Authority, and has at least two years' of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the electrical work which an electrician is authorised to perform; or

  • Have at least 10 years' of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the electrical work which an electrician is authorised to perform.


Electrical Technician Licence

Applicants of the electrical technician's licence must:

  • hold a diploma majoring in electrical power engineering relevant to the electrical work which an electrical technician is authorised to perform or such other qualifications as may be acceptable to the Authority; and

  • Have at least two years' of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the electrical work which an electrical technician is authorised to perform.


Electrical Engineer Licence

Applicants of the electrical engineer's licence must:

  • Be a registered professional engineer in electrical engineering under the Professional Engineers Act (Cap. 253); and

  • Have at least two years' of post-graduate experience in Singapore in electrical power engineering relevant to the electrical work which an electrical engineer is authorised to perform.

Where can I get a list of Licensed Electrical Workers (LEWs)?
A list of LEWs is available on the ELISE website.

How do I apply for a new electrical worker licence?
You have to submit your application online through ELISE. You may wish to read the 'Step-by-Step' guide before submitting your application.

Where can I get a list of Licensed Gas Workers?
A list of Licensed Gas Workers is available on the ELISE website.
5.
How can I check whether my academic qualifications are eligible for the application of an electrical worker licence?
You can check with the institute you attended on your eligibility to apply for the worker's licence. You may also email us stating your qualifications and attaching copies of your academic certificates. We will assess and respond to you as soon as we can.
6.
What are the qualifications required for a Gas Service Worker Licence?
An applicant who meets either one of the following requirements may apply for a gas service worker licence:

  • Holds a Builder Certificate in Plumbing and Pipefitting and a Gas Service Workers Course certificate issued by the BCA Academy, and has at least 2 years' of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the work to be performed by a gas service worker; or
  • Holds a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and a Certificate in Gas Technology issued by the BCA Academy, and has at least 2 years' of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the work to be performed by a gas service worker; or
  • Holds a Gas Service Workers Course certificate or Certificate in Gas Technology issued by the BCA Academy, and has at least 10 years of practical experience in Singapore relevant to the work to be performed by a gas service worker.

What is the requirement for a self-employed person to apply for or renew an electrical worker licence?
A self-employed person is required by law to pay Medisave contributions if his/her yearly net trade income exceeds $6,000.

For application or renewal of a licence, the applicant must ensure that he has paid his Medisave liabilities or has arranged with the CPF Board to pay his Medisave liabilities by instalments.

8.
My electrical worker licence has to be renewed soon, but I have not received any notification or renewal form. What should I do?
The licence renewal notice will be sent to you two months before the expiry of your electrical worker licence. You can renew your licence online through ELISE.

If you did not receive the renewal notice, you may still renew your licence online two months before the date of expiry.

Please note that the user ID is your NRIC / FIN No. If you have forgotten your password, you may request for a new password online and the new password will be sent to you by post within 7 working days. You can also login to ELISE using your SingPass ID and password.
9.
What are the fees payable for an electrical worker licence?
The application fee is $50 and non-refundable.

The fee for an Electrician's Licence, an Electrical Technician's Licence and an Electrical Engineer's Licence is $30, $60 and $80 respectively and exclusive of GST.
10.
I lost my Electrical Worker Licence, how do I obtain a replacement?
You may submit your request for a replacement licence online. A copy of your police report should be attached with the request.

The fee for a replacement licence is $20 (exclusive of GST).
