Electricity Installation Licences

Supply Installation Licence

1.
What is a supply installation licence?
A supply installation refers to any electrical wiring, fitting or apparatus used for the conveyance and control of electricity in any premises using a generator as the only source of electricity supply. A supply installation licence consists of both the electrical installation and its own generator(s).
2.
What document(s) are required for the application of a supply installation licence?
You have to appoint a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW), by signing a Letter of Appointment (LOA), to take charge of your electrical installation.

Your appointed LEW will inspect and certify the fitness of the electrical installation, and apply for the licence via an online application to EMA together with the signed LOA.
3.
There are different types of Licensed Electrical Workers (LEWs). Which type of LEW should I engage for my supply installation?
There are 3 types of LEWs, namely Licensed Electrician, Licensed Electrical Technician and Licensed Electrical Engineer.

They are licensed to design, install, repair, maintain, operate, inspect and test different types of electrical or supply installations:
Type of LEWApproved Load/Voltage Level
ElectricianNot exceeding 45 kVA / 1000V and below
Electrical TechnicianNot exceeding 150 kVA(Design) / 1000V and below
Not exceeding 500 kVA(Operation) / 1000V and below
Electrical EngineerNo Limit on approved load / Voltage level subject to licence conditions
4.
How much is the supply installation licence fee?
The licence fees for a supply installation are:

i. New licence and renewal for 12 months: $150
ii. New licence and renewal (once) for 3months: $50
iii. Replacement licence: $20

(Exclusive of GST for all 3 licences)
5.
I intend to hold a mini-fair/trade-fair and was informed by the National Environment Agency to obtain a Permit from EMA. How should I go about it?
You need a supply installation licence before you can use the generator and the associated electrical installation for a mini-fair/trade-fair.

Engage a Licensed Electrical Worker (LEW) of the appropriate class to be responsible for the setting up of the temporary electrical installation at a mini-fair/trade-fair. He/she will submit the "Form P Application" for permission to set up a temporary electrical installation at the mini-fair/trade-fair on your behalf.

Upon successful submission of the application, an automated online reply will be given to your LEW. He shall print a copy of EMA's reply for your submission to the relevant authority. No payment is required for submission of the 'Form P Application'.
6.
I intend to rent a generator for my construction site. Do I need a licence for the installation?
Yes. You will require a supply installation licence before you can use the generator and the associated electrical installation at your construction site.
