What is the Gas (Supply) Regulations?
The Gas (Supply) Regulations spell out the roles and responsibilities of gas licensees in Singapore's gas industry. The Regulations also stipulate that any gas service work on gas installation and gas appliances connected to the gas pipeline systems, such as installation, maintenance, repair, etc. will have to be carried out by a licensed gas service worker or a professional engineer.
What is the Gas Supply Code?
The Gas Supply Code sets out the obligations of gas licensees to comply with the standards and procedures for the safe operation of the gas supply system.
Is town gas and natural gas used for cooking, commercial and industrial purposes odorised?
Yes, town gas and natural gas conveyed to retail consumer's premises are injected with a pungent odorant to facilitate the detection of gas leaks.
How would I know when a gas installation or gas fitting is due for inspection?
SP PowerGrid Ltd (SPPG) will notify the person responsible for the gas installation or gas fitting when an inspection is due. The person should then engage a Licensed Gas Service Worker or a professional engineer to certify the fitness of any gas installation or gas fitting.
Who is the "responsible person" for gas installation in the premises?
The "responsible person" in relation to any premises, means the consumer, occupier or the owner of the premises. Where there is no consumer or occupier or if the occupier is away, the owner of the premises or the management corporation constituted under the Land Titles (Strata) Act (Cap. 158) would be responsible to take appropriate action in relation to the gas installation to any gas installation.
How do I know whether the appliance installed or repaired by a Licensed Gas Service Worker or a professional engineer is safe for use?
You will receive a written statement certifying that the gas appliance has been tested and is safe for use after the Licensed Gas Service Worker or a professional engineer completes the work.
Are the responsibilities of the gas transporter and the responsible person clearly defined in the Gas (Supply) Regulations?
PowerGas Ltd, as the gas transporter, is responsible for carrying out any maintenance, repair or renewal of any part of a gas service pipe from a gas main up to a gas service isolation valve.
The "responsible person" shall be responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair or renewal of any gas fitting linking the gas service isolation valve to the meter installation.
The retail consumer shall be responsible for the proper maintenance, repair or replacement of the gas appliances and the consumer's internal pipe.

Can Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) appliances be used with town gas?
Natural gas, town gas and LPG are three different types of gas with different composition and characteristics. As such, gas appliances designed for a particular type of gas cannot be used for other types of gas unless they are appropriately modified.
Is cleaning of residential gas hobs considered gas service work?
No, gas service work does not include cleaning of gas appliances.
Does LNG have the same gas composition as natural gas?
LNG is natural gas in liquefied form and its composition is similar to that of natural gas.
Is LPG regulated by the Gas Act and its regulations?
