What does the slogan REAL PEOPLE, REAL ACTION, REAL EDUCATION mean?
Real People
The team at The Tourism Academy @ Sentosa is part of Temasek Polytechnic's 1,300 full-time staff. They have rich industry experience, high educational qualifications, global exposure and the passion to grow the minds and shape the attitudes of the next generation. All lecturers have either held senior positions or have special expertise. The Tourism Academy also draws from industry and from the island's human resource to provide the most current knowledge of the trade.
Real Action
Learning no longer just takes place in the lecture theatre or in the library. The island with its wide range of hospitality and tourism businesses becomes a large classroom. With field trips, site inspections, hands-on projects and work attachments, there is no better way to appreciate real business. Students could choose to do their internship on the island resort, or anywhere in Singapore or beyond, and could even top-up their exposure by working part-time with the island's partners.
Real Education
From the rigorous curriculum of over 1,350 contact hours including a 15-week internship, the graduate gains a solid business foundation, sound IT knowledge, technical as well as life-skills like problem-solving and effective communications.
With multiple exposure of learning alongside industry, the graduate is even more ready for the challenges of the real world. Studying and doing numerous projects with classmates from all over the region opens up minds and builds connectivity.
Armed with a Temasek Polytechnic diploma, graduates who decide to further their studies can gain direct entry into many universities - with up to 50% exemptions for their bachelor degree programmes.
