Conciliation - negotiate settlement directly between yourself and the debtor. You can contact the debtor by phone, pager, fax or letter or by turning up at the debtor's office or home. If the debtor is not in, leave a message under the door or in the letter-box for him or her to contact you.

Mediation - where you have difficulty negotiating directly, the introduction of a third party to act as a go-between often helps. This person can be a relative, friend or even an acquaintance. The important thing is that this person can be in a position to facilitate matters and assist parties towards an amicable settlement. In certain circumstances, the Community Mediation Centres of the Ministry of Law may be able to assist.
