Basic Theory Test (BTT)
1.	How can I book for BTT?
	The booking for BTT can be done at any of the three driving centres at Singapore Safety Driving Centre, Bukit Batok Driving Centre and Comfort Driving Centre. You will first need to open an account with any one of the three driving centres and the account will be valid for a period of 6 months. After you have opened an account, you may book for the BTT at either the self service kiosks or the internet website of the specific driving centre. 2.	Can I book the BTT online?
	Yes. BTT can be booked through the schools' respective websites. You will first need to open an account with any one of the three driving centres. back to top


3.	Do I have to go personally to open an account with the schools?

4.	What are the various charges involved?
	To apply for BTT at the driving centres, an account has to be opened with them. The driving centres charge an administrative fee of $5.35 inclusive of GST (non-refundable) when opening an account. This account provides candidates with the following services: Schedules of test dates, timings and classroom allocations Booking of test dates via Internet, including changing and cancelling bookings The test fee for BTT is $6.00. back to top


5.	Besides the test fee and administrative charges for opening an account with the driving school, do I need to pay any additional fees?
	There is no need to pay extra fees, subject to change, at the driving centres. back to top


6.	When is BTT available?
	BTT are conducted from 8.30 am to 9 pm on Monday - Friday and from 8.30 am to 12 pm on Saturday. No tests will be conducted on Sundays and public holidays. BTT are available in written, oral and computerised versions. In general, there are more test slots for computerised BTT. back to top

Final Theory Tests (FTT)
1.	How can I book for FTT?
	The booking for FTT can be done at any of the three driving centres at Singapore Safety Driving Centre, Bukit Batok Driving Centre and Comfort Driving Centre after you have passed the BTT. If you have previously opened an account with the driving centre less than 6 months ago, you may book for the FTT at either the self service kiosks or the internet website of the specific driving centre. Practical Tests
1.	How can I book for practical test?
	Before you can book for a practical test, you will need to pass the Basic Theory and Final Theory Tests. Computerised Theory Test (CTT)
1.	What is CTT?
	CTT is the acronym for Computerised Theory Test. It allows the candidates to sit for the Basic Theory, Final Theory and Riding Theory tests via a computerised environment. back to top


2.	What are the benefits of CTT?
	CTT will better serve the public because it a. Provides instant test result; b. Conducts the theory tests in the four official languages - English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil; and c. Offers user-friendly, efficient and convenient touch-screen terminals so candidates can answer the test questions by "touching" the selected answer. back to top


3.	Will the tests conducted under CTT be available in languages other than English?
	CTT allows the tests to be taken in English, Mandarin, Malay and Tamil. back to top


4.	How does candidate take the theory tests under CTT?
	Under CTT, candidates will take the theory tests by answering the questions on a touch-screen computer. There will be simple instructions on the computer screen to guide candidates through the questions. An invigilator will present a short briefing slides before the test and render assistance throughout the test session. Candidates will be given 50 mines to complete the test. At the end of the test, candidates will be able to see their results on the computer screen. back to top


5.	How will the verification of the identity of the candidate be done?
	Under the CTT, the candidate will need to present his NRIC or passport together with the booking slip to the invigilator for verification of his/her identity. After the verification, the invigilator will issue the candidate with a password slip to use the CTT. For foreign candidates, they must produce their Employment Pass with passport or Work Permit. back to top


6.	What if someone cheats?
	There are security features in the system. For instance, the test stations allocated to candidates are generated by the system on the day of the test. In addition, test questions are randomised such that no two candidates in the same classroom taking the test at the same time will receive the same set of questions. The classroom will be closely monitored by closed circuit cameras. Anyone caught cheating will be barred from taking the test for a period of up to six months. back to top

11.	If I book for a test at a particular test centre, can I take the test at another centre?
	No. Candidates can only take their test at the driving centre which they have opened their account and placed their booking with. As such, candidates are urged to decide carefully which Test Centre best suits their needs before opening an account and booking a test date. To apply for a test at another centre, the candidate will need to open an account with the new Test Centre which he is making the booking. The same charges stated in item 8 will apply. No multiple bookings are allowed. back to top


12.	What is the duration of the test?
	The test will take 50 mins, excluding briefing time. back to top


13.	How long would a candidate take to complete CTT? Is it any faster than taking the written theory test?
	This will depend on how well the candidate has prepared himself for the test. back to top


14.	If I am late for the test, will I be allowed to sit for the test?
	No. Late comers will not be allowed to sit for the test to avoid disrupting the class. back to top


15.	Will there be any invigilators?
	Yes, there will be an invigilator to present a short briefing slides before the test and to oversee the smooth running of the test. He will also render necessary assistance to those who are not familiar with CTT. back to top


16.	What if I need help during the tests, if I am unfamiliar with how to use the computer?
	The invigilator will render whatever assistance necessary. However, candidates are encouraged to attend the training and trial tests conducted by the driving centres to familiarize themselves with CTT before taking the test. 17.	How soon can I know the test result?
	Upon completion of test, CTT will display the result to the candidates. back to top


18.	Can I get a copy of the test result?
	Yes. You can print a copy of the test result upon completion of the test at the self-service kiosk located outside the classroom. back to top


19.	What is the passing mark of the test?
	Out of a total of 50 questions, not more than five mistakes can be made. back to top


20.	Will I get the same questions if I retake the test?
	No. CTT has a database of questions. The questions for each test will be randomly selected from the database. back to top


21.	What are the kinds of theory tests that will be tested on computers?
	All theory tests, namely: basic theory, final theory and riding theory. back to top


22.	Are training available to prepare candidates to take the CTT?
	Yes, the three driving centres have each set up a classroom to train candidates in CTT. These classes are available to students from the driving schools and those taking driving classes from the private driving instructors. 23.	Can I book for a Final Theory Test immediately after passing my Basic Theory Test?
	Yes, you can book the Final Theory Test at the school's self service kiosk or via its internet web-sites. back to top


24.	If I am computer illiterate, what should I do?
	All candidates are encouraged to take the theory tests under the CTT because it is user-friendly and you will get your results immediately. However, if you are unable to take the tests under CTT, you may approach the Chief Tester of the respective Driving Test Centre who will advise you on the alternative options such as written or oral based theory tests. 25.	Will oral version of the theory tests still be available?
	Candidates are encouraged to take CTT. However, oral theory tests will still be available on request. back to top


26.	Will written version of the theory tests still be available?
	Candidates are encouraged to take CTT. If candidates are not familiar with CTT, they are encouraged to attend the training and trial tests conducted by the driving centres to familiarize themselves with CTT. back to top


27.	Can I change to CTT if I have already booked for a written theory test?
	Yes, you have to cancel the original booking first and rebook at the centre's internet web-site. You will have to join the others in the queue. back to top


28.	If I have booked for the CTT, can I request for change to the written theory test?
	All candidates are encouraged to take the theory tests under CTT. However, if you wish to take the oral theory test, you may approach the Chief Tester of the respective driving test centre of the Traffic Police to re-book a oral theory test. Class 2B Riding Licence
1.	What are the stages that I have to go through to obtain a Class 2B Motorcycle Licence?
	You must pass the Riding Theory Test (RTT), complete your riding training course, and pass the Practical Riding Test (PRT) in order to obtain a Class 2B Motorcycle Licence. back to top

4.	What is the objective of the Practical Riding Test (PRT)?
	Under the law, you have to pass the Practical Riding Test (PRT) before you can be issued with a Class 2B Riding Licence. This is to ensure that you can ride safely and competently. back to top


5.	Are there any conditions after obtaining my Class 2B Motorcycle Licence?
	Upon obtaining your Class 2B Motorcycle Riding Licence, you will be placed on probation for one year. You should not accumulate more than 12 demerit points during this period. If you do, Traffic Police may revoke your licence. You are required to display the Probation Plate during the probationary period of 1 year. back to top


6.	Where can I buy the Probation Plate for display?
	You can purchase the Probation Plate (P-Plate) at any of the Driving Test Centres or any of the major petrol kiosks. back to top


7.	What is the penalty for failing to display the Probation Plate?
	The penalty for failing to display the Probation Plate is S$ 120.00 without demerit points. However, the driving licence will be revoked for the repeated offender. back to top


Class 2A Riding Licence
1.	Do I have to sit the Riding Theory Test (RTT) again to obtain a Class 2A licence?
	You are not required to sit for subsequent Riding Theory Test (RTT) after you have obtained Class 2B Qualified Licence. back to top


2.	Can I learn to ride Class 2A Motorcycle lesson while on Class 2B probation?
	No. Under the Road Traffic Act, you must be in possession of a Class 2B Qualified Licence for at least one year before you are allowed to obtain the Class 2A Qualified Licence. back to top


3.	Do I have to display the probation plate on my vehicle for Class 2A Probationary period of 1 year?
	No, you do not need to display the probation plate on your vehicle. The probation plate must be displayed for Class 2B & Class 3/3A ONLY. back to top


Class 2 Riding Licence
1.	Do I have to sit the Riding Theory Test (RTT) again for Class 2?
	You are not required to sit for subsequent Riding Theory Test (RTT) after you have obtained Class 2B Qualified Licence. back to top


2.	Can I learn to ride Class 2 Motorcycle lesson while on Class 2A probation?
	No. Under the Road Traffic Act, you must be in possession of a Class 2A Qualified Licence for at least one year before you are allowed to obtain the Class 2 Qualified Licence. back to top


3.	Do I have to display the probation plate on my vehicle for Class 2 Probationary period of 1 year?

Class 3 Driving Licence
1.	Can I choose the test date?
	Applicants who make their booking at the test centres will be assigned a test date by the test centre. back to top


2.	What is the validity period for my Basic Theory Test (BTT) results?
	There is no expiry date for the validity of your Basic Theory Test (BTT). back to top


3.	Is there a limit on the number of times you can sit the Basic Theory Test?
	There is no limit on the number of times a person can attempt to pass the Basic Theory Test. However, only one booking can be made per person at any one time through Internet or at the test centres. back to top


4.	Is there a limit on the number of times I can renew my Provisional Driving Licence(PDL)?
	No, there is no limit on the number of times you can renew your PDL. Renewal of PDL can be done every 6 months at any Singapore Post Office, for a renewal fee of S$ 25.00. back to top


5.	What is the objective of the practical test?
	The objective is to ensure that you can drive safely and competently. back to top


6.	How do I prepare the practical test?
	Make sure that you receive good driving instructions and have sufficient driving lessons. You should learn on different roads as well as in the Driving Circuit and get as much experience on the road. back to top


7.	Is there a limit on the number of times a person can take for the Class 3 Driving Licence?
	There is no limit on the number of times you sit for the Practical Driving Test. Once the driving tester is satisfied that you can drive safely and competently, you will pass the test even if it is your first attempt at the test. back to top


8.	How do I book the Final Theory Test (FTT)?

Class 3A Driving Licence
1.	What is your definition of Auto Transmission Vehicle (ATV)?
	An ATV is defined as a motorcar without any clutch pedal. The skill required to operate a vehicle with a clutch pedal is the key difference between a Manual Transmission Vehicle (MTV) and an ATV. back to top


2.	Where can I apply for Class 3A training lessons?
	You can train for Class 3A at any of the driving centres, namely Bukit Batok Driving Centre (BBDC), Singapore Safety Driving Centre (SSDC) and ComfortDelGro Driving Centre Pte Ltd or from Private Driving Instructors (PDIs). back to top


3.	Where can I apply for Class 3A test?
	You can go to any of the 3 driving centres for enrolment of the Class 3A practical test. back to top


4.	How do I apply for Class 3A test?
	You can apply for a Class 3A test in the same way you would for a Class 3. Simply approach any of the 3 driving schools to book your theory and practical tests. At the point of booking for the practical test, candidates will have to indicate whether they will be using an ATV or an MTV for their test. back to top


5.	Will the theory tests for Class 3 and Class 3A be different?
	The basic and final theory tests are the same for both ATV and MTV learners back to top


6.	Can I drive an ATV if I have a Class 3 licence?
	Yes. A Class 3 licence will legally allow you to drive both MTVs and ATVs. back to top


7.	Can I drive a MTV with a Class 3A licence?
	No. You will need to undergo a practical test in an MTV to ensure that you are able to handle an MTV and drive on the road on an MTV. The fee for the practical test is $20. back to top


8.	Can I apply for a taxi-driver's job or other jobs requiring vocational licences with my Class 3A licence?
	No. You have to follow the regulations as stipulated by LTA when applying for vocational licences. They require a Class 3 licence. back to top


9.	I have a Class 3A licence. How do I get a Class 3 driving licence?
	You can go to any of the driving schools to apply for the Class 3 practical test, which is essentially a driving test using an MTV. back to top


10.	What documents must I bring along for my practical test?
	You will have to produce your identity card or passport, test fee receipt and the car insurance certificate [for student of Private Driving Instructors (PDIs). back to top


11.	When can foreign ATV licence-holders convert their licences to Class 3A licences?
	One can convert his or her foreign ATV licence to a Class 3A licence from 1 Sept 04 onwards by passing the basic theory test and presenting the necessary documents to facilitate the conversion. No practical driving test is needed. back to top


12.	How much does it cost to get a Class 3 driving licence?
	To get a Class 3 licence, you will have to apply for a Class 3 practical test. The test fee will be $20/-. You may also wish to go through the Class 3 course training provided by the driving schools and the PDIs. 16.	If I have a Class 3A licence, can I drive cars that are using clutchless manual transmissions e.g. Alfa Romeo's selespeed, Opel's easytronic etc?
	Yes. As long as there is no need to physically operate a clutch pedal, the vehicle is deemed to be an Automatic Transmission Vehicle for the purpose of the Class 3A back to top


17.	What are the offences and penalties for driving an MTV with a Class 3A licence?
	The offender will be charged for driving without a valid driving licence and may be fined up to $1,000 or jailed up to 3 months for the first conviction. He will also be charged for driving without valid insurance coverage and can be fined up to $1,000 or jailed up to 3 months, or both. He will also be disqualified from driving for at least 12 months. back to top


18.	Can current Class 3 licence holders take ATV training lessons if they wish to?
	Yes. He can opt to attend an ATV familiarisation course at the driving centres. Driving centres have their own ATV familiarisation course packages, which may be tailored to the learner's individual needs and requests. back to top


19.	If I pass my Class 3 practical test recently but have a Class 3A licence for a year or more, am I under probation?
	Yes, you are under probation. This means your Class 3 licence may be revoked if you obtained 13 or more demerit points during the year of probation. back to top


20.	If I pass my Class 3 practical test within one year from the date I got my Class 3A licence, do I need to display a probationary plate?
	Yes. You will need to display the probationary plate as long as you are still under Class 3A's probation period. When your Class 3A's probation period is over, you need not display the P-plate. However, you will still be subject to the 13-demerit point rule under your new Class 3's probation period. back to top


21.	If I get 13 or more demerit points while under probation and I have both Class 3A and Class 3 licences, which licence would be revoked?
	Only the licence that is still under probation will be revoked. Therefore, if only your Class 3 licence is under probation while your Class 3A has passed its probation period, only your Class 3 licence will be revoked. If both your Class 3A and Class 3 licences are under probation, both will be revoked at the same time. back to top


22.	Do I need to get a new Provisional Driving Licence (PDL) when I sit for my Class 3 practical test?
	It depends. Class 3 PDL covers both Class 3 and Class 3A vehicles under the law and is valid for 6 months at one go. You can continue to use the PDL if it has not expired at the time you are taking the Class 3 practical test. Otherwise, you will have to apply or renew your PDL at $25/- at any of the driving schools. back to top


23.	Am I required to take Class 3 course lessons before I can sit for a Class 3 practical test?
	You are not legally required to take the Class 3 course lessons. You are only legally required to pass the practical test to prove your competence. However, the schools and private driving instructors may have their own policy of ensuring that you are adequately competent to use their vehicles for the test. They may require you to go through a lesson or two to ascertain your competency level. back to top


24.	Can I use my own private vehicle for the Class 3 practical test?
	No. Cars used for instructional and testing purposes have to be insured for training and testing and must be approved by LTA. The three privately owned driving centres only allow cars belonging to private driving instructors who are their members to enter their driving centres for training and testing. back to top


25.	If I am undergoing MTV training currently, can I switch to ATV training?
	You are encouraged to continue with your current training lessons. Please check with your driving instructor if it's appropriate for you to switch to ATV training as the change may disrupt your learning schedule. back to top


26.	If I had earlier booked for a date for MTV test, can I switch later for ATV test?
	For private candidates, you would first need to cancel the MTV test that you have earlier booked before reapplying for a new test date. A test fee for the new application will be required. Otherwise, driver learners should approach the driving centres that they have registered with. T he first test will start only from 3 Jan 05 onwards. back to top

Class 4 Driving Licence
1.	What is the requirement to take a Class 4 Driving Licence?
	Must be 21 years old and above and has a valid class 3 driving licence. back to top


2.	Is there a limit on the number of times a person can take for the Class 4 Driving Licence?
	There is no quota on the number of passes for the Practical Driving Test. Once the driving tester is satisfied that you can drive safely and competently, you will pass the test even if it is your first attempt at the test. back to top


3.	Can a child restrainer be placed in lorries?
	As long as there is a seat belt in the front seat of lorries, a child restrainer is necessary. back to top


4.	If a person is on probation for Class 3 can he/she take Class 4 test?
	A person can take Class 4 practical test provided his /her demerit points are below 12, he is not disqualified or suspended from driving and must be at least 21 years of age. The system will reject the application if the person has more than 12 demerit points back to top


5.	Must Class 4 probation licence holders display the probation plate on their vehicles?
	No, they do not need to display the probation plate on their vehicles. The probation plate must be displayed for Class 2B & Class 3/3A ONLY. back to top


Class 5 Driving Licence
