What does PUB do?
PUB is the national water agency. We are responsible for the collection, production, distribution and reclamation of water in Singapore.
We manage Singapore's water supply, water catchment and sewerage in an integrated way. This has earned us the 2007 Stockholm Industry Water Award. We were also named Water Agency of the Year at the Global Water Awards 2006.
PUB is a statutory board under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources.

What is local catchment water?
Local catchment water is rainwater that falls in Singapore's catchment areas and flows into our 14 reservoirs and a network of stormwater collection ponds. By 2009, the water catchment area will increase from half to two-thirds of Singapore's land area, when the Marina Reservoir and Punggol-Serangoon reservoir schemes are completed.

What is desalinated water?
Desalinated water is seawater that has been de-salted. Since September 2005, the SingSpring Desalination Plant in Tuas has been producing desalinated water through a reverse-osmosis process. The plant can produce 30 million gallons of water a day (136,000 cubic metres).

Can I drink directly from the tap?
Yes, it is safe to drink directly from the tap. Singapore's tap water is well within the World Health Organization (WHO) drinking water guidelines and is suitable for drinking without any further filtration.

Do I need to use a filter?
No, Singapore’s tap water is suitable for drinking without any further filtration. In fact, a filter that is not regularly maintained or replaced may have a higher risk of contaminating your water supply. Such filters include commercial water filtration devices and those found in water coolers.

Can I use tap water for home aquarium?
While Singapore's tap water is suitable for drinking, the chlorine that is used as a disinfecting agent in tap water may make it unsuitable for some types of fish. Hobbyist groups such as the Koi Club (Singapore) offer advice on how to manage aquariums.
