New Application
1.	Who needs to apply for the Pet Shop Licence?
	Any individual or company that intends to use a premises to keep or display pets for sale or for export. The types of animals that can be kept or displayed in pet shops include the dog, cat, rabbit, guinea pig, hamster, gerbil, mouse, chinchilla, Red-Eared Terrapin, ornamental birds, ornamental fishes, land hermit crab (Coenobita rugosus), green tree frog (Litoria caerulea) and the Malayan box turtle (Cuora amboinensis). Each application for a pet shop licence must indicate the type of animals to be kept or displayed. AVA must approve each type.

2.	How do I apply for this Licence? What do I need?
	You can apply for this Licence online via the Online Business Licensing Service at http://www.business.gov.sg/licences. You will need to have a SingPass to do so. You can apply personally or authorise a representative to apply on your behalf. However, the person applying for the Licence must sign the application form. Hardcopy applications are to be submitted to the Animal Welfare Regulations Branch (AWRB) at the Centre for Animal Welfare and Control, 75 Pasir Panjang Road, Singapore 118507. You will need to submit the following with your application: A letter of approval from the Housing and Development Board or Urban Redevelopment Authority for use of the premises as a pet shop The shop layout plan. The plans can be hand-drawn but please ensure that the drawings are clear. You should include the location of the animal display area, food and accessories area, quarantine, exercise area, food preparation area and wash area. The sketch of the cage / tank design and construction, as appropriate. You should provide information on the design and construction of the cages / tanks, the placement of the ventilation system and the wastewater discharge system. Your CPF Medisave statement Your Tenancy Agreement A photocopy of the front and back of your NRIC A printout of your company’s biodata as filed with Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority. In addition, you will need to: Attend an interview at this office where you will be assessed on your knowledge and experience with the pets you intend to sell. You may also be required to take a test. You will be informed of the date for the interview within three full working days upon receipt of your completed application. Have knowledge and understanding of AVA’s pet shop licensing conditions. Within three full working days upon receipt of your completed application and all relevant supporting documents, we will conduct a premises inspection and inform you whether your application was successful.

3.	What is the cost of the Licence?
	The licence fee is S$126.00 and is non-refundable. A non-refundable application fee of S$94.50 including GST will also be collected upon application. Payment by cash, NETS or cheque at this office is accepted. You can also pay online at http://www.business.gov.sg/licences. You will need to open a GIRO account for annual licence renewal.

4.	What else should I know?
	1. The Licence is valid for one year. 2. The Licence is issued to a specific address and cannot be transferred to another address. 3. The Licence is not transferable to another individual or company. 4. If you run a private limited company, the licensee should be the company manager or a company director. 5. If you are renovating the premises prior to approval, please ensure that it is according to AVA's requirements, or you will be required to rectify deficiencies before your application is approved. 6. Currently, you do not need the Licence to (1) sell pet supplies and accessories (2) sell pet food (3) do pet grooming (4) operate a dog day care centre (5) operate a pet cafe. However, please be advised that you should seek approval from the Urban Redevelopment Authority for pet grooming and from the National Environment Agency for pet cafe. 7. Currently, to display or sell Dragon Fish (Arowanna), you will need a Letter of Approval issued by AVA's Aquaculture Service Centre at Sembawang Research Station, Lorong Chencharu Singapore 769194. 5.	Where can I go to for more information?
	You can contact the Animal Welfare Regulations Branch (AWRB) at 6471 7198 or check AVA's website at http://www.ava.gov.sg under Pet Shop.

Licence Renewal
1.	What do I need to know about renewal of this Licence?
	This Licence must be renewed annually. This office will send you a renewal notice about one month prior to the date of licence expiry. We will do a premises inspection. If the inspection is satisfactory and licence conditions are complied with, we will send a letter to inform you that you can renew your licence. Upon payment of your licence fee, your licence will be renewed. Payment for licence renewal is by GIRO. The amount is S$126.00. You can also pay online at http://www.business.gov.sg/licences. If your GIRO is not successful, you can come to this office to renew your licence. Please bring along your notice of renewal and also your latest CPF Medisave statement or payment receipt. You can authorise someone else to renew on your behalf. He / she should bring the old licence or the renewal notice and your latest CPF Medisave statement or payment receipt. Please note that once renewed, the licence fee is non-refundable. The Licence is also non-transferable.

Licence Update
1.	What kind of information do I need to update AVA? What do I need to show?
	You will need to update us on the following: 1. Change in personal particulars 2. Change in company name (if the licensee and address remain the same) 3. Change in shop particulars (except address) 4. Change in animal particulars, such as the type and number of animals 5. Change in shop layout, if the change involves the animal display area. Depending on your update request, you may be required to submit all or any of the following: 1. Latest Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority certificate or company bio-data printout 2. Written approval from the Housing and Development Board or Urban Redevelopment Authority 3. Proposed shop layout plan 4. Design and construction plans for the animal enclosures or cages. If the request is for a change in the type of animals, the applicant will have to undergo an interview and be assessed on his / her knowledge and experience. The applicant may be required to take a test. Approval will only be given upon satisfactory interview and assessment, and upon satisfactory inspection of the premises. The inspection will be conducted within three full working days upon receipt of the application and submission of all supporting documents. For all other requests, this office will schedule an appointment for the applicant to come to this office with the old licence for us to make the amendments. We will process your request within three full working days if all relevant supporting documents are submitted. There is no charge for updates. Any changes other than those listed above will require application for a new licence.

Licence Termination
1.	What do I need to know about licence termination?
	You should terminate your licence if you no longer intend to use the premises to display or sell pets. Termination of pet shop licence is auto-approved and will be done within three full working days. After termination, you should not keep, display or sell pets on the premises.
