What are the registration procedures for a foreign lawyer to practise foreign law in Singapore?
|
|
To register a foreign lawyer for offshore practice, please submit the following:
(a) Form E duly completed;
(b) the curriculum vitae of the foreign lawyer and supporting documents; and
(c) a cheque for $160 being the prescribed annual fee for each lawyer payable to "The Attorney-General, Singapore".
Reference should also be made to Guidance Note for Applicants to Practise Foreign Law - Registration of (a) Foreign Lawyers and (b) Singapore lawyers in Foreign Practice (LPS/FL/1/2007 issued on 6 July 2007) before an application for registration as a foreign lawyer is made.

What are the registration procedures for a foreign lawyer to practise Singapore law in a qualifying Singapore law firm?
|
|
To register a foreign lawyer for practice of Singapore law in a qualifying Singapore law firm, please submit the following:
(a) Form G duly completed;
(b) A cheque for $1000 being the prescribed annual fee for each foreign lawyer registered to practise Singapore law in a Singapore law firm payable to "The Attorney-General, Singapore"
Reference should also be made to Guidance note for Applicants to Practise Singapore Law - Registration of Foreign Lawyers in (A) Joint Law Ventures and (b) Qualifying Singapore Law Firms (LPS/FL/2/2007 issued on 6 July 2007) before an application for registration as a foreign lawyer practising Singapore law in a Singapore law firm is made.

What are the supporting documents required to register a foreign lawyer?
|
|
The documents required are photocopies of:
(a) the lawyer's curriculum vitae;
(b) the lawyer's passport;
(c) the lawyer's academic and professional certificates; and
(d) an official letter from the law firm stating the lawyer earns no less than S$2501 per month, unless the said lawyer is a Singapore citizen or Singapore Permanent Resident.

How can a foreign lawyer carry on a business, practise or act as a patent agent in Singapore?
|
|
One way is for the foreign lawyer to seek admission as an advocate and solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore and then apply for a practising certificate issued under the Act. Please write to The Secretary, Board of Legal Education (BLE), Conference Room (9th Floor), Subordinate Courts, 1 Havelock Square, Singapore 059724 or email to the BLE at blegale@singnet.com.sg for queries relating to how to qualify as a Singapore lawyer or whether your qualification entitles you to be admitted to the Singapore Bar. Another way is for the foreign lawyer to register as a patent agent with the the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS) and take out a practising certificate issued under the Patents Act (Cap. 221) and Rules made thereunder. For the requirements for becoming a registered patent agent and the scope of work permitted to foreign lawyers who are not registered as patent agents under section 104 of the Patents Act (Cap. 221) and the relevant Rules, please refer to the IPOS website here.

What are the procedures for setting up a RO in Singapore?
|
|
To register a RO, please submit the following:
(a) Form D duly completed;
(b) a cheque for $500 being the prescribed annual registration fees payable to "The Attorney-General, Singapore ".
Reference should also be made to Guidance Note to FLFs and Representative Offices (LPS/FLF-RO/1/2007 issued on 6 July 2007) before an application for registration as a RO is made.
