What kind of data are available data.gov.sg?
At launch, more than 5000 publicly-available datasets from 50 public agencies can be found at the data.gov.sg catalogue. The data includes both textual as well as spatial (map) data. Some examples of these data include
- Economic, population and census statistics
- Traffic Data
- Weather Data
- Location of Hawker Centres
How did data.gov.sg come about?
data.gov.sg was first conceived as part of the eGov2015 Masterplan and is a key project under the Masterplan’s “Co-creating for higher value” thrust. data.gov.sg is to enable and catalyse the development of innovative applications by the private and people sectors, and support the Masterplan’s vision to be a collaborative government that co-creates and connects with our people.
What is metadata and how can I use it?
Metadata are informative labels that describe the characteristics of the dataset. The metadata provided by data.gov.sg will provide you with information about each dataset. Some examples of metadata include the title, description or location of a dataset. Click

As the first-stop portal for the general public to search for and access publicly-available government data, data.gov.sg seeks to:-
a. Provide convenient access to publicly-available government data by the general public;
b. Catalyse the development of innovative applications and services by the private sector, including start-ups and students; and
c. Facilitate analysis and research by academics and researchers.
